Jordan

Core region | Syrian Refugees and Host Communities

Artolution has been organizing community-based art projects in Jordan since 2013, working in the Azraq and Za’atari refugee camps and in host communities across the country. We have trained over 25 artists there—Jordanian, Syrian and international—in our methodology.

In February of 2019, Artolution partnered with UNICEF to start a new program in Azraq Syrian Refugee Camp that continues to this day. 10 Artolution-trained and certified artists, all Syrian refugees and camp residents, lead mural projects year-round, reaching hundreds more budding leaders.

We have worked extensively in schools across the country, bringing together hundreds of children and adolescents from Syrian, Jordanian and Palestinian backgrounds, who have worked together toward a common artistic and social vision. Thanks to our partners at the German agency GIZ for their support.

Last year, we launched our newest initiative, a women-focused program where marginalized Syrian and Jordanian women acquire skills such as ceramics and jewelry-making, then learn to market their work in order to become financially independent entrepreneurs. Thanks to the Nommontu Foundation for their support.

In 2022 alone, over 1000 Syrian and Jordanian children participated in Artolution’s mural and performance projects throughout the country. They, in turn, bring their messages of hope, strength, and vision to their families, friends, and the community at large.

Our work in Jordan is funded by the German governmental agency GIZ, UNICEF, the Nommontu Foundations and individual donors.
