On August 25th, 2017, Rohingya villages in Myanmar were attacked and burned to the ground. The Rohingya faced a genocide that caused them to flee to Bangladesh by the thousands on foot and by boats. Together, along with Artolution’s Rohingya artists, we remember those who were lost during the brutal violence and arduous journey, and those who live in crowded settlements where disease and illnesses quickly become deadly.

In Bangladesh, we have a passionate team of Bangladeshi and Rohingya teaching artists, including many who were affected by the ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya community in Myanmar. Since 2018, our talented team has demonstrated their commitment to leading Artolution programming year-round, bringing joy and creative expression to thousands of children, youth and families.

UNHCR & Artolution:
Supporting Youth in Bangladesh through Collaborative Art

Artolution has been partnering with UNHCR Bangladesh and Terres des Hommes to implement groundbreaking projects, transforming the largest refugee camp in history by promoting positive relationships and creating platforms for the community to tell their own story. Just in the last year, we completed 40 murals, 5 Foundstrument Soundstrument projects (interactive recycled musical sculptures), 3 major retrospective exhibitions, developed a Rohingya folkloric musical team, launched the first team of Rohingya refugee artists on the remote Bhasan Char Island Refugee Camp and created a mobile art studio to bring creative arts programs to remote regions in the camps. This is the first program of its kind, and a model for community-based public art education in emergencies across the world.
